There is something special about watching South Africans encounter a proper winter landscape. Snow that feels ordinary to someone else can stop an entire family in its tracks when home usually means sunny Decembers and summer holidays.
A different kind of arrival
What stays with me is not a polished social-media moment. It is the immediate reaction: stepping outside, looking up, touching the snow and laughing together. That sense of discovery is one of the reasons I love welcoming South Africans to Bakuriani.
More than skiing
Some guests arrive ready to ski; others are there for the snow, shared meals and time with family or friends. The best trips leave room for both, without pressuring every traveller into the same experience.
