Every winter, my family and I pack up our lives and move into what I like to call our “winter wonderland” — Bakuriani. I spend the whole season here, welcoming clients, skiing a little, sipping a little glühwein, and watching this snowy town fill with life.
And since so many people ask me: “But what’s it really like in Bakuriani?” I decided to make my own quirky little map. Now, before you laugh at my skills, let me say this: it’s not to scale, it doesn’t show every restaurant or shop, but it gives you a feel of what you’ll find when you arrive. Think of it as a peek into the snowy world we call home.
Ski Slopes Everywhere
One of the first things you’ll notice in Bakuriani is that the ski areas are on the mountains surrounding the town . From the big Didveli gondolas to Kokhta and beautiful Mitarbi, there’s something for every level — from beginner-friendly blue runs to challenging black slopes. And then, right in town, you’ve got the Beginner Ski Area. This is the hub of activity: ski schools, ice skating, little cafes, bars, and restaurants — all in walking distance from the villas.
What Else to Expect
Bakuriani isn’t just skiing. It’s horse rides through snowy forests, children playing in the snow, and people strolling under twinkling lights in the evenings. There are restaurants on the slopes (perfect for a hot lunch with mountain views), cozy places in town, and of course, lots of mulled wine to keep you warm.
And when you stay at Villa Mtashi, you’re in the perfect spot — especially if you’ve got kids. Everything is nearby: the beginner slopes, fun activities, and plenty of places to sneak in a hot chocolate break.
My Personal Tip
If there’s one thing you shouldn’t miss, it’s snowmobiling. It’s fast, it’s fun, and it’s absolutely breathtaking. The guides take you up into the mountains where the views stretch on forever — it’s the kind of experience you’ll talk about years later.
Why I Made This Map
Bakuriani is still a bit of a hidden gem. It’s up-and-coming, it’s growing fast, but there isn’t always enough information online for people to really picture it. And that’s why I wanted to create this — not as a perfect guide, but as a way to show you what you can expect, to give you peace of mind if you’re planning your first ski holiday here.
It’s affordable compared to the big-name ski resorts in Europe, but it’s got everything you need: endless slopes, a cozy winter village atmosphere, and that undiscovered charm that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled on something special.
For me, Bakuriani isn’t just where I work — it’s where my family spends the best part of winter. It’s where my girls learn to love the snow, where we meet families from all over, and where life feels just a little bit magical.
