Bakuriani, Georgia, has been chosen to host the European Youth Olympic Festival in 2025, a decision confirmed during the 49th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees. This continental competition for young athletes has been held since 1991, with the first festival taking place in Brussels, Belgium. The festival has gained popularity over the years, with an increasing number of participating countries. Since 2012, it has been held once every four years. Bakuriani’s candidacy for hosting the festival was officially recognized by the European Olympic Committee in December 2018. Georgia, which previously hosted the event in 2015, received full governmental support for the project, as noted by the EOC committee after their visit to Borjomi and Bakuriani resorts in February 2020. The Georgian National Olympic Committee began its efforts to host the festival in July 2019, with official news of the event included in the European Olympic Committees. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the decision to have Bakuriani host the festival was unanimously supported by all European Forum delegates during the online assembly.
